WOMEN and youths of Ovade – Oghara community in Ethiope West Local
Government Area of Delta State, demonstrated, weekend, calling for the
removal of the
youth leader of the community, who they accused of
indiscriminately arresting villagers, high-handedness, insubordination,
corruption, among others.
The protesters carried placards, which bore different inscriptions.
Chairman, interim executive committee, Mr. Hitler Igbakpa and a
youth leader, Mr. Wilson Elisha, in their separate speeches during the
protests, said that the former youth leader, for over a decade had
refused entreaties to step down for another youth to take over the
affairs of the community.
Mr. Igbakpa alleged that the former youth leader converted the
community’s bus provided by Pan Ocean Company and Christmas rice
provided by the DESOPADEC Managing Director and community’s rubber
plantation to his personal use.
