The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested 25 beggars for violating the law banning street begging along the major streets of the state capital. The beggars were arrested in various parts of the city on Tuesday.
The officer in charge of the Anti-begging Unit of the board, Malam Musa Sangaya, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Wednesday. “Our men arrested 25 street beggars around Bata, Naibawa and Yankaba areas for violating the law banning street begging in Kano metropolis. “Out of the 25 beggars, 10 are adult (both male and female), while 15 are children who engaged in begging in places like traffic junctions and restaurants,” Sangaya said. He said the culprits hailed from Kano city as well as from Bichi, Rano and Gezawa local government areas of the state. He said two of them had been taken to court, while 23 who were first offenders, were taken to their various local government areas.
