MISS
Colombia has opened up on her humiliation at
being wrongly named Miss
Universe and what she has been doing to move past the debacle.
Two weeks ago Ms Gutierrez shed tears as she was crowned Miss Universe.
However
four minutes later her tears of joy changed to tears of heartbreak when
host Steve Harvey said he had announced the wrong winner.
Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach put her hand over her mouth, knowing that the crown was in fact hers.
Speaking to W Radio in Colombia, Ms Gutierrez was frank in explaining her heartbreak.
“It
was a very big injustice. It was humiliating for me and for all people
in Latin America in the auditorium,” she said. “I have been
disconnected, I haven’t received any phone calls, just a few people have
been able to contact me and it is because I needed to grieve for what
happened that night.
“It is been so
hard for me. I had always dreamt about being Miss Universe. I dreamt to
give that joy not only to my family but also to all Colombia, but I have
to continue my life,” she said.
Ms Gutierrez said she thought at first Harvey was playing a trick on her.
“I
thought it was a joke when Steve Harvey said it was a mistake because
he is a comedian in USA, but when he actually said I was not Miss
Universe everybody was in shock,” she said. “Paulina Vega did not know
what to do and she asked me, and I told her take me off the crown. She
did it, she put the crown onto the new Miss Universe and she pulled me
and said, “Let’s go now”.
She said she would not let anyone take away the fact that she was announced as the winner first.
“Everything
comes back to the original owner. I would accept with honour. The crown
was first mine I put it on first,” she said. “I feel like the second
Miss universe in a row for Colombia and the third one for the history of
our country.”
Ms Gutierrez said she has been inundated with offers for TV shows and modelling shoots — and $1 million to star in a porn film.
“It
is been incalculable the amount of offers I have received. Not all of
them have been the best ones,” she said. “The worst is the porno video. I
haven’t received a formal offer but I would never do it for one million
dollars. For an incalculable amount. No, I am joking I will never do
it. No my parents will kill me.”
Miss Colombia said she is putting away her pageant heels forever.
“I
wouldn’t be interested in participating in any other contest or be part
of any event of Miss Universe,” she said. “I have already closed that
episode of my life.”
