Former Super Bowl Winner Will Smith Shot Dead

The 34-year-old, who was a New Orleans Saints defensive end, is shot several times in an apparent road rage attack.

Former New Orleans Saints footballer Will Smith has been shot dead after he was involved in a car crash.

Smith, 34, and his wife Racquel were in the car when it was shunted from behind in the city's Garden District on Saturday, the Times-Picayune reported on its website.

After an exchange of words the driver of the other vehicle shot the couple, killing Smith and injuring his wife.
"A senseless and tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with Will Smith - his wife Racquel - his children William, Wynter and Lisa," wrote Greg Bensel, the Saint's communications vice president, on Twitter.

Police said he was shot "multiple times" and his 34-year-old wife was shot "twice in the right leg".
The alleged shooter has been arrested and is in custody. The handgun believed to have been used in the shooting has been recovered.
Defensive end Smith played for the Saints for a decade and was in the team that won the Super Bowl in February 2010.
